What is Family Medicine
Family medicine is the medical specialty which is centered on lasting, caring relationship with patients, their families and the community. Family physicians integrates the biological, clinical and behavioral sciences to provide comprehensive health care. Unlike other specialties that are limited to a particular organ or disease, family medicine integrates care for patients of all ages, sexes, each organ system and every disease entity, and advocates for the patient in an increasingly complex health care system.
In the increasingly fragmented world of health care, one thing remains constant: family physicians are dedicated to treating the whole person with integrated care. Family physicians deliver a range of acute, chronic, and preventive medical care services while providing patients with a patient-centered medical home. Through enduring partnerships, family physicians help patients prevent, understand, and manage illness, navigate the health system and set health goals. In addition to diagnosing and treating illness, they also provide preventive care, including routine checkups, health-risk assessments, and personalized counseling on maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
Our Practice in Family Medicine
Our practice in Family Medicine incorporate both Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Functional Medicine, both of which view the human body as a whole, rather than separating it into a collection of independent organs divided by medical specialties. In TCM, no symptom of pain or illness is addressed (nor is it understood) without assessing how the entire person is doing. Functional Medicine seeks to identify and address the root causes of disease, and views the body as one integrated system. Therefore, we create a better opportunity for the whole body to heal by treating the whole person and all combination of symptoms, rather than "fixing" a single symptom alone.
